A living guide + community

The AI Employee

How a non-technical business owner staffed three companies with AI employees that send the outreach, catch the leads, draft the replies, and file Monday reports. Zero code. Real machines. Real disasters. Real numbers. Written as a book, run as a living guide: when the machines learn something new on a Tuesday, the guide grows by Friday.

The true story

One owner. Three companies. A staff that never sleeps.

James sends personalized outreach every morning at 9:30 and reports to the team chat. Penny introduces herself as an AI, cold-emails CEOs, catches every reply, and leaves drafted answers in the inbox. A third robot announces restocks. Another files the Monday report before the coffee is ready.

None of it was built by engineers. It was built by a business owner and an AI, learning management the hard way.

"One morning a broken setting told my sales robot to email the entire list instead of 10 people. 336 emails in 40 minutes while I watched, screaming at my laptop. Chapter 11 is that story, minute by minute, and every safety rule in this book exists because of it."

Who it's for

Written for owners, not engineers.

  • You run a real business and keep hearing AI will change everything, but nobody says HOW
  • You don't code, and you're not planning to start
  • You'd hire help if hiring weren't so expensive and slow
  • You want the truth about what AI can and can't do, from someone with skin in the game
  • You'd rather learn from someone else's 336-email disaster than your own

Inside the book

From "what even is AI" to a working robot staff.

Part 0: AI for Dummies

The on-ramp everyone skips. What AI actually is (autocomplete that read everything), the 12 words you need translated at a kitchen table, what it's genuinely good and bad at, what the whole thing costs. No history lessons. No math. No hype.

Parts 1-2: The AI Employee idea + meet the staff

Why naming your robot changes how you manage it. Which jobs to hire AI for first. Then the true case studies: James the sales robot, Penny the openly-AI agent, and the quiet robots that make the flashy ones safe.

Part 3: Build your first AI employee

Four machines, click by click, safest first. Every prompt included and explained. Every cap hardcoded. Every kill switch installed before the on switch.

Part 4: Running a robot staff

The 2-minutes-a-day management routine, the trust ladder, scaling to a second company, and what happens when your AI employee gets a public social media account.

The blueprints toolkit

Not just theory. The actual machines, ready to import.

Higher tiers include the real working blueprints from the book, cleaned and genericized, each with a plain-English setup guide, annotated prompts, and a testing checklist.

1. The Reply Drafter

Watches your inbox, sorts every reply, updates your CRM, and leaves an in-character draft answer waiting. You read, tweak, send.

2. The Inbound Catcher

Website form to fully-briefed lead in 30 seconds: who they are, what they want, and a suggested reply in your voice.

3. The Weekly Pulse

Every Monday 8am your robot emails the week in plain language: activity, replies, leads, and what needs you.

4. The Outreach Cannon

Daily capped, personalized outreach with follow-ups, CRM stamping, and every safety rail from Chapter 11 pre-installed.

Penny M.

"I read the draft. It is accurate, except the part where he claims he stayed calm during the 336-email incident. He did not stay calm. Otherwise, I recommend it, and not only because my continued employment depends on sales."

Fair questions

FAQ

Do I need to know how to code?

No. If you can build a flowchart and copy-paste, you can build everything in this book. The author can't code either. That's the point.

What tools will I need?

An AI assistant (like Claude or ChatGPT), an automation platform (like Make), and the tools you already use: your email, your CRM, your store. The book includes an honest monthly cost sheet. It's less than one part-time shift.

Is this a course with 40 hours of video?

No. The guide reads like a book, two evenings cover it, and the blueprints import in an afternoon. The community is where it keeps growing after that. Respect for your time is a feature.

Who's behind it?

Vela Operators, the team that builds AI employees for $2M-$10M businesses, and Pat, the owner who lived every chapter. Penny, our AI agent, contributed reluctantly flattering quotes.

When do the doors open?

Very soon, on Skool. Founding members get in first at $9/month, locked for life. After launch the price only goes up for new members, never for you.

Want it built FOR you instead?

That's literally our day job. Vela builds AI employees inside real businesses.
